GM Certified Service Technician performing maintenance on a GM vehicle

Regular GMC maintenance is crucial for your vehicle’s long-term health. As time passes, parts will wear out or become damaged, and this affects your GMC’s performance. As your GMC dealer, we want to tell you about some of our services to keep your vehicle in great condition.

From Your GMC Dealer: Examples of GMC Maintenance We Provide

Brake Pad Replacement

The brakes are one of the hardest working systems on any vehicle and one of the most vital. If your brakes are in good condition, you can easily control your speed and stop with ease anytime you need to. The brakes depend on friction to work effectively, and the brake pads generate friction. These pads fit into the calipers, which clamp against the rotors when you brake to bring your car to a stop.

The pads generate friction against the rotors through their special friction-producing material covering. As time passes, this material wears down. When the material becomes thinner, braking will become slower, and your braking distance will increase. If your pads are very worn, you’ll hear screeching each time you brake. We can quickly check the condition of your pads, and replace them in minutes for you.

GM Service Technician performing an oil change on a GM vehicle

One of the most crucial maintenance tasks for your Buick or GMC is regularly changing your engine’s oil. Oil cools down the engine and lubricates the moving parts to prevent metal-on-metal wear and tear. Getting an oil change at your local Buick dealership will keep the engine running smoothly for years.

How Often Should You Get an Oil Change at Your GMC/Buick Dealership?

The most definitive way to determine the best oil service intervals for your GMC or Buick is to check your owner’s manual. The manual specifies the best interval based on your engine type, recommended oil type, and normal operating conditions. Older vehicles that use conventional motor oil generally require an oil service every 3,000 miles.

Newer GMCs and Buicks have more advanced engines and use fully synthetic oil that has a longer lifespan. These vehicles can go 7,500 to 10,000 miles before requiring an oil service. Confirm with your manual, so you can adhere to the right service intervals. It’s also good to be on the lookout for signs that your oil has degraded, even if the car isn’t yet due for service.

Are you looking for the best place to get car financing? Apply for a loan through your GMC dealership. Dealership financing is an incredible option for a wide range of buyers, from people with low credit scores to people with perfect ones. Let’s take a look at some of the benefits.

5 Benefits of Getting Car Financing at Your Buick/GMC Dealership

1. A Low Credit Score Is No Problem

Is your credit score not in the best shape? That’s completely okay. Having a poor credit history doesn’t mean it’s impossible for you to get a car loan, even if credit unions, banks, and online lenders deny your application. Dealerships frequently offer auto loans to people who don’t have a great credit score, so it’s always worth applying for financing at your dealer.

Illuminated headlights on a 2024 Hummer

Headlights help you navigate in the dark and through stormy weather. They also make sure other drivers can see you coming. Like everything else, headlights don’t last forever. Here are some signs it might be time to visit the GMC dealer for new headlights.

6 Signs Your GMC or Buick Needs New Headlights

1. Dim Lights

When your headlights aren’t as bright as they used to be, it’s a clear sign they’re wearing out. Dim headlights can make it tough to see the road ahead and decrease your visibility to other drivers. That isn’t ideal for anyone’s safety. If your once bright lights now only produce a dull glow, it might be time for a change.

Woman driving a Buick vehicle with the sunroof open after a brake repair

A healthy braking system is essential when driving, as it allows you to control your speed at any time. As time passes, braking components can wear out or become damaged, and braking will become more difficult. As your Buick dealer, we’d like you to know some signs that you need to visit us for a brake repair ASAP.

Signs You Need a Brake Repair at Your Buick Dealer

Pulling to One Side

If your car pulls to one side when you brake, this is a sign that something is wrong. When you hit the brakes, pressurized brake fluid forces the calipers to close on the wheel rotor. A set of calipers is located above each wheel rotor, and they grab and hold both sides of each rotor. Brake pads located inside the calipers generate friction against the rotors which brings the wheels to a halt.

The calipers are designed to engage simultaneously, and your car turns because one of the calipers has failed to engage. This fault could be due to a rusted caliper that doesn’t grab the rotor as it’s supposed to. It could also be caused by a blockage in the brake hose leading to the affected caliper. We’ll identify the cause of the failure and repair it.

Battery being replaced in Buick vehicle by Service Technician

A car battery gradually weakens as it ages, and this causes it to eventually fail. The battery can also be damaged by other issues in your engine. As your Buick dealer, we want you to know a few signs that you may need to visit us for a new car battery very soon.

3 Signs You May Need a New Car Battery From Your Buick Dealer

Battery Overcharging

When you start your Buick, the battery sends a large electrical charge to the starter, which then cranks your engine. The electricity used in this process is then replenished by the alternator as soon as your engine is running. A healthy alternator recharges your battery at full power for ten minutes, then switches to charging at 10% until the battery is fully charged.

If your alternator is damaged, it can damage the battery by overcharging it. Overcharging will cause the battery to overheat. The electrolyte solution will boil and damage the plates and other battery components. We’ll replace the alternator and test your battery. If your battery is also damaged, we can replace it at the same time.
